Friday, September 20, 2019 should be remembered as marking the beginning of a greater movement toward building meaningful action and unity around addressing climate change. The urgency of our collective situation cannot be overstated. The message is clear. We joined thousands of others in the Twin Cities area, Minnesota (one site of 1000s across the world) as climate strikers to raise greater awareness. The energy, clarity and determination of the event is inspiring. This is not a single day event. This is a call to action for all of us. A lesson learned from the leaders and water protectors at Standing Rock and elsewhere, real change requires a change at the individual level and commitment to action and vigilance on a daily basis.

This was a fantastic day of world-wide coming together of voices to address climate change. I have to confess I felt a bit self-conscious for a few minutes when I looked at myself clad in my synthetic bike clothing (most of which I have acquired from entries in biking or running events rather than direct purchase), my plastic sunglasses and helmet and synthetic backpack, my synthetic shoes (in part), and the fossil fuel based components of my bicycle.
